We are getting bids to remodel our master bath. The issue is this....The existing walk in shower is too small so I want it closed off and made into a large linen closet. We also have a garden tub that I want removed and replaced with a larger low bib walk in shower. I have had two contractors come, once did not mention this at all but the second said that we should not seal off the drain in the old shower completely but cap it somehow that would allow air to enter and feed the drain in the new shower so it runs smoothly. I want this remodel to look like it belongs in the house and not an after thought so I do not want the raised floor in the closet. Would not the drains from the double sinks feed enough air into the drain to keep the new shower drain working well? Is there any other option?

IF things are done correctly, NEITHER the sinks nor the old shower drain will, not should, VENT the new shower. and maybe you need a different plumber.

The garden tub drain should already be vented and this vent would be the same size required for the shower. The drain pipe might need to be increased to 2", if it isn't already that size.
