 Depth of sump pump
Author: greggie (IL)

My sump pump runs alot during wet times, worst case during storm as fast as every 30 seconds. I was wondering if maybe the depth at which the pump is placed could effect run time. I have mine below inlet because once i removed power to pump when it was filling and once it covered the inlet it was a matter of moments before it overflowed from a near by floor drain that connects to the pit. I hoped the drain tile would fill.

Should it be placed below inlet where the pipe is exposed?
Or should it be above inlet allowing drain tile to fill and pipe is covered?

The pump should kick on before it submerges the inlet pipe, you can have it kick on when water is above the inlet pipe but your more at risk for water damage if the pump cant keep up with it kicking on at a higher level
