 Submersible Pump
Author: Sallysue (AL)

My husband installed a submersible sump pump in basement. First timer. The only way we could situate the pump in the hole is if the pump is in the center of the hole. However, the inlet pipe is pouring water directly on top of the pump and cord. That was the only way to install it in order for the water NOT to touch the float or for the float not to touch the side.

Now I know its a submersible pump, but is it truly OK to have water running or dripping right on top of it constantly like that?

Why not? If it is "submersible" then it is designed to be under water.

The one we replaced was positioned in same spot. Over time the gasket between the cap and switch (it was a zooller pump m98) allowed water to get under the cap and into the switch area. We replaced it with the same model pump. This one has water pouring over the top of it as well.

Freak occurence, I dont know?

The float on ours is closer to the wall of the sump pump liner. I would guess its about 5-6" from the side of the basin.

Is that adaquete clearance?

Piping wont allow for any adjustment unless we allow the inlet water to wash over the float instead of the top of the pump.

The clearance is fine the pump is fine as far as water dripping on it dont worry about it, pumps go bad eventually it is common. The install sounds normal, like hj said it us made to be submersible whether it's in a lake or a sump crock
