We are replacing ice maker in kitchen. It drains in to the basement in to a pipe. We do not quite have the 1" per 48" slope for the drain as recommended, but close enough. The old one was in place for 14 years. However, the sump pump drain is in the basement directly under where the ice maker is. The ice maker does not continually drain. my question is can we run the tubing in to the sump pump for the little bit of water that is drained? Thanks for any help.

Yes, but if it is the typical icemaker, it drains a lot more water than you think.

I believe that is the same as the Whirlpool/Kenmore/etc. which does not have a cooled storage bin, so the ice is continually melting, which produces a fair amount of drain water.

Most undercounter ice makers here are equipped with a pump option. External drain pumps can also be purchased. Gravity drains use the earth's gravity to remove water from your ice maker.
