Shower head drips when filling bathtub
Author: Jna9396 (IL)

Hey Everyone! We’re re-doing the shower. After changing the shower head, faucet and knob the shower head is now slightly running/dripping when I run just the faucet for a bath. We first installed then re-installed and made sure to change the height if everything according to the directions that state “there shouldn’t be a distance of more than xx inches between shower head and knob” (that’s just for example I don’t remember exact wording as my husband did the project”. Anyone know or have any ideas why shower head is still running when I just want the faucet? Please and thanks in advance!!!

The shower head should be a minimum of 6 ft pff the drain and because the shower arm curves downward its best to install several inches higher
Ok I hope you did not use pex for any tub faucet as the directions should state that due to the very slightly smaller diameter of 1/2 perx only solid pipe such as copper should be used for the short length to the tub spout if you are indeed using a tub spout No if your shower head drips you need a new cartridge and major manufactures such as Delta Moen PPhister will send you a new one free of charge OK?

too small diameter pipe leading to the tub spout will cause a restriction. this will lead to the problem you have.

Yes some manufacturers say do not use pex from the valve to the spout due to flow restriction, or could be a jammed up diverter

ALL manufacturers say that, unless they use a "twin ell" at the diverter spout.

I had a customer with the same issue. The original plumber installed the valve body upside down. Any restriction on the spout outlet will cause the head to drip, also. Let us know what you figure out.

Yes, this same issue happened to me. The original plumber installed upside down so needed to break through tile to fix and now have a large plate covering the hole.
