 tapping noise
Author: PH1 (MD)

In the master bathroom whenever the hot water is turned on at the sinks I hear a tapping sound. It sounds like your fingernail tapping a wood table. The noise will sometimes continue after the water is turned off but it does stop. When first heard the noise I thought the worse, a water leak no signs of leaking for 13 years. The pipes are cpvc and my guess is the pipe is bouncing against a stud. Would you all agree?

not bouncing but rubbing against wood because of thermal expansion.
only cure is to "swiss cheese" the walls/ceilings in an attempt to locate the problem. once found then insulation is placed between the pipe and the wood.

It's just annoying, not dangerous.
