The art of bending soft copper tubing

I was trying to bend some 1/2" soft copper tubing and I am having some difficulty to bend them without creating kinks.

I have heard about various tricks, like filling it with sand before bending.

I was using those "spring benders" and it seems to be hits and misses even when I use them. Like the picture below, I created a kink even with the spring bender and had a hard time removing the spring with the kink.

Yes I am aware that PEX is easier but sometimes I still want to use soft tubing below grade and avoid joints.

Any tricks on bending you care to share would be greatly appreciated!
