 Insinkerator hot water tap "sputters"
Author: Ric_T (CA)

I have an Insinkerator hot water tap, delivers approx 180 deg hot water (for tea and such), installed under my kitchen sink. Have had it for about 10 years now, and it has worked perfectly until now. When I turn on the spigot, it sputters and splatters, like there is a lot of air coming out along with the water. There are no leaky pipes or tubes that I can tell, and no air in the line (I ran it for several minutes to purge any air if it was in there). Also turned the temperature to the lowest setting in case steam was an issue (it apparently wasn't). Also, the aerator is perfectly clean, replaced it, to no avail. Still, it sputters. The manufacturer suggested those three things (check for leaks, lower the temperature, clean the aerator). Didn't help. Has anybody had a similar experience, and solved it? Thanks in advance.

Does this happen the whole time the water is flowing?

Had it happen a couple times. Mine was caused by a bad thermostat. So the water was overheating.

And yes it was around the 10 year old mark both times.

Are you sure it lowered the temp. Cut power to the unit so it does cool down. And I would bet the sputtering goes away.
