 Price Pfister Bathtub Faucet Leaks
Author: H2owe (WA)

Our home was built in 1960. The faucets have often leaked and I've replaced washers or such. It seems I've also replaced stems and/or seats in the past.

Anyhow, the current issue is that the hot water leaks from the bathtub faucet. I first tried replacing all of the flat washers (hot/diverter/cold) and it still leaked. I then replaced the hot water stem and seat. It still leaked. I have now replaced the cold water stem and seat as well as the diverter and seat and the hot water STILL LEAKS. I have not used teflon tape anywhere, should I?

Any thoughts?

Try some paste sealant on the seat threads. If it still leaks, maybe a cracked/porous valve body? Next I would make a seat plug and see if water still leaks into the valve body with the stem removed.

If you have not damaged the valve body, I would try to find a good plumber who knows how to convert the faucet to the new lifetime ceramic stems, (which also requires new trim pieces), which eliminates the seats and washers.

Thank you for the suggestion. Is the valve body the pipes that are in the wall? I have replaced everything I can buy at the local Home Depot. Are you suggesting plugging the hot water pipe where the seat goes and seeing if water still comes out somewhere/somehow?
