 drain line question
Author: Barsh (WA)

I have an unusual situation where I need to route an exterior downspout from one side of a 16' wide two story building to the other side of the building - but the routing needs to run through the interior of the building. The downspout would connect to a new 3" ABS pipe on the exterior on one side and then the ABS would immediately pass into and through the building in the second floor joist space. The line would then pop out the other side of the building where it would connect to a city storm water line. The ABS would slope at 2% and be assembled in the same fashion as a 3" ABS interior sewer pipe. Are there any code issues that would not allow a pipe to pass through a building in this manner?

No code that I'm aware of. Roof drains often run through the interior of commercial buildings and houses built on property lines.

It might be loud during a rain storm. Installing cast iron pipe instead of ABS plastic may lessen the noise.
