 toilet leak
Author: plumbobber (CA)

I have 2 toilets with identical problems. water is leaking somewhere causing the tank to keep refilling. It is a small amount, but enough to make the refill mechanism to start to refill again within a couple of minuets.Put new flaps and complete tubes with flaps but the problem still exists.I can't see any dripping out side of the toilet. They are one piece toilets about 30 years old. They are the original toilets from the house when built.
HELP !! anyone
thanks
Ross

You need to identify the brand and order a new flapper from them. Other remedies will not work.

Can you post a photo of the tank's interior?

Put some food coloring into the toilet tank water.
if the water in the bowl turns color then you know for sure it is the flapper not sealing.

or the seat gasket is leaking.

On the older 1-pc. Kohler toilets, the flush valve gasket could be corroded, causing water to leak out of the tank. The closed foam becomes open cell. Most of the 1-pc. toilets have specific flappers. Make sure you have the correct one. Kohler makes about 6 different flappers, and they are not interchangeable.

Model and serial number would help a lot. At least a picture. Any help without pictures or model and serial number is just a guess.

may be the flapper SEAT not the flapper the seats do wear out the seat is the ring that the flapper seals onto
