took these off a job a while back. never seen anything like them
brass/bronze 1/2 inch copper hangers of some sort.
kinda very early version of mickey mouse ears.

That is a cast brass high ear hanger, we used to sell those at our store - a slow mover. They are also available in wrot copper.

Used a lot of these from the mid to late 70's and sold quite a few in the early eighties. Mostly for holding stubouts.

Do you just slide the tubing through it to prevent lateral movement of do you actually solder it to the pipe?

Solder it if used for a stubout. I believe I have a couple of 1/2" cts ones in the bottom of my fitting crate. They've been there for quite awhile.
