 Vanity plumbing question
Author: MikeB (IL)

Hello, I recently replaced my vanity in my bathroom, there is a non threaded copper pipe coming out of the wall for the drain. How do I connect new pipes to that? Trap adapter the best solution?

A copper to pvc no hub coupling or a copper to tubular no hub coupling depending on what type of trap your using.

Does the pipe coming from the wall have an OD of 1 1/2" or 1 5/8" ?

hold on a second.
if the OD is 1 1/2 then it is not copper tubing, it is a piece of a broken trap arm (extension to the wall).

may be best to get us a picture so we can be sure.

OK so then the fitting i pictured above is what you need.
one end will fit the copper tubing and the smaller end will accept a trap arm.
either metal or plastic trap will fit. both have the same OD.
do check the inside of the existing copper and clean if necessary .
lastly, if you opt for a metal trap, do get the thicker gauge. cost a few bucks more but well worth it.

Packy I had this same situation at one of my rentals and I used the coupling you suggested to connect to the 1.5" copper drain pipe, the other side I inserted a street 1.5" PVC trap adapter.

seems like that would make a restriction.
