 Occasional faucet/shower discharge
Author: Keith S (OH)

We experience an occasional discharge from shower or bathroom sink faucet shortly after bath or shower. It only lasts about 10-15 seconds and involves perhaps a cup of water. Is this related to the fact the water heater has kicked on and is expanding water (pressure), as it heats? We have a closed system with overflow tank.
Thanks for any insights or tips.

i've never seen that happen but that doesn't mean it can.

try an experiment with the water heater.

shut off the power (if electric) or turn the gas knob to pilot (if gas) and take a shower.

if nothing happens the your theory is correct . (good news)

(bad news) you need a new expansion tank.

(good news) the tank just unscrews and is easily replaced. water must be shut off first and a faucet opened to relieve the pressure. on a scale of one to ten it is so far below a one that it hardly registers.
