Delta tub shower replaced and water now doesn't turn off at all
Author: dumbyellow12 (AZ)

IDK if someone can help me, but we had a leaking tub/shower single handle faucet, so I stupidly think I can fix that after watching a youtube video. I get the cartridge at home depot, turn off the water supply. Take out the old one and put in the new one. Turn on the water and now it comes out full blast and turning the screw (with or without the knob) doesn't turn it off at all. I even reversed the cartridge, same thing. Feeling really dumb and now my husband is going to be home in a few hours from a trip to not being able to turn on the water until we get a plumber in the morning unless there is a piece to this puzzle I am missing and can be fixed. If anyone is bored and wants to help an @#$%&, please advise. Thanks, wendy

What model cartridge did you use? Are the o-ring seals behind the cartridge missing?

Danco for Delta 1300/1400 series. compares to delta RR19804. The only difference between the old and new is the rear is navy blue plastic instead on off white. It had all the seals that I could see. I did the whole unit into the pipe instead of just replacing the springs and rings in the center.

I would just replace the gaskets and put the old one back in, but I messed up the plastic removing it when it was stuck in the pipefrowning I am not a genius.

I think you bought a defective cartridge. Return it and get another one. Too late now, but Delta would probably send you a new cartridge under warranty.

If it is the correct replacement, and it should not go in if it were not, there is almost no way what you describe could happen, so we are stumped.

Wrong cartridge. Delta has about 6 or 8 different pressure balanced cartridges, some with short "legs" and some with long "legs". Take your cartridge with you to get the proper one.

www.deltafaucet.com/shower-cartridges. Great resource to identify Delta cartridges. There are 15 different cartridges!

Usually, the space between the legs is different so they cannot interchange.
