main gas supply line in the house for new home construction
Author: cofeemud (TX)

I am new to building and would like to build my own home. On the initial stage where you run gas line before pouring concrete slab - where do you put the main gas supply inside the house. Is there a proper/ideal location for it. Do I just have plumber run proper pipe from where gas meter will be to that location inside the house. Just one connection there then the rest can be piped up after framing is completed? Thank you for any insight

you want the main supply run into a utility room where the furnace and water heater will also be located.
being able to use flexible gas pipe has changed the way a whole house is piped.
you might be looking at something like this.

The concrete slab has NOTHING to do with it. ALL the gas piping will be ABOVE the floor in the walls and ceilings.

Do you mean gas line do not get buried under
The slab in the same way as water and sewage?

EXACTLY. If a gas HAS to go under a concrete slab, and it can only be done with natural gas, not propane, there are very specific ways it has to be done, and it has to be because there is no other way to do it.

since YOU are building YOUR new home:

there is NO REASON to run gas under the slab

do NOT, repeat NOT, install a (flammable) gas line under a concrete slab

DO'H

One reason would be a gas appliance in an island, but the underground portion would HAVE to follow proper protocols. An inspector told me if the customer wanted propane to an island cook top, he would need a column op to the ceiling so the gas line could be installed inside it.

Once you have your framing up call in for a licensed gas contractor. They will do this job correctly and have it permitted and inspected.

There will be a black pipe nipple (from 3/4" to even 2" depending on BTU load) coming from the newly framed walls with a pressure gauge confirming line is holding a test. Once an inspector confirms this test and the installation the new piping will be Green tagged and the natural gas company can be called in to finish.

The gas company will bring a new gas line (under the ground) to this location. They will provide and install the new gas meter to the existing pipe nipple.

I will not install gas line under the slab/foundation as PROHIBITTED BY CODE.

Code REQUIREMENTS are not, repeat NOT, suggestions but the absolute MINIMUM requirements to ensure safe human occupation.

hence the term 'certificate of occupancy (permitted)'

..... end rant
