 pvc cemented joints?
Author: exapprentice30 (MA)

What causes small bubbles in the joints? I prime the pipe and fitting and put cement on pipe and less on the fitting and twist 1/4 turn and they don t leak. Should I be using medium cement or heavy duty insted of using regular cement?

In preparation you also need to chamfer the end of the pipe prior to applying primer and cement.

to tell the truth.
i do as you do. prime both male and female.
cement heavy on the pipe and just a swipe inside the fitting.
then turn a bit to evenly distribute the glue.
i have never looked for nor do i care if there is a bubble.
if i have done what i'm supposed to have done that is what is important.
regular set glue is all i use.
in the winter there is a below zero formula but i have no idea what the difference is other than it doesn't freeze if left in the cold overnight

I get a bit nervous on the final joint when turning the joint to evenly distribute is not possible.

I wonder the bubble could be indications that the pipes are not fully dry. I remember when I had pipes laying outside and they get rained on, even if I take a rag and wiped them dry, once I applied primer, I see some very small bubbles, I assume this means the still wet portion of the PVC was not taking the primer. Often times it means the rag I was using was initially dry, but once I wiped down one or two pipe end it became wet a little, so I have to come back and rewipe it with a dry paper towel or something before repriming them.
