 knobs for a shower
Author: ze (GA)

I have a question about picking out the knobs for a shower. I get to choose any thing for "looks" that I want. per the contractor. But I do not like the looks of the shower knobs for hot and cold. I want them to match my sink handles. Can I get a second set of the sink ones to use for the shower? This is the first bathroom I have ever got to choose and at my age I am going for looks. Also, too embarrassed to ask the contractor. Thanks in advance!

IF, repeat IF, the sink AND shower are from the maufacture's same style/model then YES

if not, you are outa luck

UNLESS

you are willing change the sink faucet to match the shower valve's 'line'

HOWEVER

it would be rare not to find a close match, albeit not perfect

the only way you will match the faucet handles is if you get the same brand of manufacturer.
companies do this on purpose.
you can not mix and match handles between brands.

It is a new build for a 1900s house. No working or existing bathroom, so I was hoping since no existing plumbing that this would be a easy for a plumber. If I am suppose to pick up the 'pretties' and he picks up the tubing or hosing. Am i assuming that is wrong?

thats how it should work when doing a full 'start from scratch' bathroom design.
it is easy to pick a faucet and a matching shower set-up. BUT not so easy when changing one or the other.
if you want matching handles, change both. only way to do this..

Thank you, as I can't get out to shop I was looking on line and of course no help with finding a full bath set up to match. Unless you want the blaring silver chrome look. Also just afraid of wasting money since it will be a handicap room.

ADA has its own particular set of regulations when it comes bathrooms.
not all faucet handles nor shower valve handles are approved.
while this is a good thing for those in need, it limits the choices available.

You will have the greatest number of options if you resign yourself to chrome, especially for ADA. I personally like chrome because other finish fashions come and go and if you need a piece of replacement trim down the road you may be out of luck.

Chrome never goes in or out of style. Chrome parts will probably be available forever. There are some really nice chrome designs. Just a thought from someone who has had to try to find the oddball finishes for older parts.

polished chrome gives you maximum flexibility and choice.

If you go with something like brushed nickel or oil rubbed bronze, it gets complicated when you need to replace things in the future due to more limited choices.

Also it's not just matching sink faucets and shower faucet finishes, it may extend to towel bars & grab bars, toilet flush levers, wall scones, ceiling lights, wall switch plates, door handles. Those other items may or may not have matching finishes in all selections, and may get expensive.
