e one Grinder Pump Issue - Please Help?
Author: OldReturner (CT)

Evening

We had a 3-day power outage and it worked fine before the outage.

The usual happened - the basin got full, the alarm went off, and I hit the silence button. It was running but water was NOT being pumped out.

I tried turning off the breaker, letting it run, turning off the breaker, but to no avail.

I then lifted the unit a bit and rested it but still in the water. I turned it on and water WAS pumping out of the discharge hose.

I opened the ball cock and water from the sewer did shoot up into the air.

I then removed the entire unit and hosed it down and checked for any visible clogs which I found none.

I replaced the unit and turned it on, it runs, but no water is being pumped out.

Other than calling in the professionals and spending a wad of cash, any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

you should have called in the pros when the ALARM began to sound the FIRST time - it is NOT usual for the alarm to sound and the basin to be full

that is WHY the alarm sounds - to alarm you of a problem BEFORE the basin fills to the top

plain old sump pumps can air lock but i don't know if a sewer ejector can?

i can't think of any other reason why the pump will work if raised up a little then go back to not working when set back down?

makes no sense to me ?

I know, makes no sense to me either. Logically maybe the pump is no longer strong enough to push the water/sewage OR there is something on the CITY side that is making me unable to pump. The pump IS pumping water at the flow rate of a typical sit down tub - that is, full flow.

sounds you like have a clogged drain. I would check the check valve first.

Thanks but which drain - you mean the pipe that runs to the street/City sewer lines? If so, that line is probably 500 feet long.

from where it leaves the sump and ties into the building main.

You know what the check valve looks like? Paper could be jammed in the swing gate.

Thanks:

When I removed the grinder pump from the sewer line and the ball cock was open, water shot out back into my grinder well so I doubt it is clogged there.

I did find where it is supposed to pump to - I removed the manhole cover and there were no blockages that I could see. Of course, it could be blocked but I dont have a snake to test it.

The check valve on the unit is not blocked but good call.

Im having e-one come tomorrow unless I can figure it out.
