 Omega Flex Gas Line Corrosion
Author: aminsole (CA)

Our plumbing contractor for a new construction used Omega Flex gas lines through out the building. when we finally received our occupancy permit and wanted to turn on the gas a few months after the gas installation was complete the whole system was leaking almost every where near every connector. When Omega Flex came and took multiple samples of the pipes and sent to a lab they said it was chlorine damage. They claim that the small amount of chlorine in the household soap used to leak check the lines has cause every bit of the pipe to develop holes and leak. Has anybody experienced any thing like this before?

Remarkable that they advertise corrosion resistance as one of Omega Flex's selling points.

It's been a well known issue for a long time, to not use a soap solution with ammonia for leak checking copper and brass. Manufacturer literature for the CSST I've seen all state to water rinse after using a liquid leak detector.

it has been well know in the trade that if you do test with bubbles solution with chlorine that it must be washed down thoroughly with warm plain water right away. of course it is best to use a chlorine free solution when testing.
the good news is that only the joints MUST be replaced. the long runs of CSST will be fine.
