 Moen shower cartridge replacement

I am trying to remove the cartridge from my single handle shower handle. I removed all parts, but there is a ground plate that is preventing the removal of the pin. Moen said to try to cut out the plastic around the pin. What should I cut it with?

A Dremel or an oscillating multi-tool or drill a series of closely spaced holes or a soldering iron or a heated screwdriver or...

done plenty of Moen's but I can't imagine what you mean by "but there is a ground plate that is preventing the removal of the pin"? shower stop tube?

post a pic if you can before cutting or drilling or anything that could be destructive to valve or trim.

oh I would just cut that out using my tin snips. But since it's necessary for thin wall installation don't remove the entire plastic guard.
