loud pipes and drippy sprayer on new faucet install
Author: Sophia77 (PA)

I just had a kitchen faucet replaced and a brand new issue has appeared. The pipes shake and vibrate loudly(!) when I open the faucet, but the noise/vibration stops when I use the sink sprayer. The water supply valves underneath are fully open as best as I can tell (they won't turn anymore, there could be an issue inside the valve). When the faucet tap is open, the sprayer dribbles. Is this a defective sprayer diverter or hole in the hose on a brand new faucet? Or an old water supply valve not allowing full flow? The plumber showed me how the hose was pulsing water (in a bucket) when not connected to the faucet so it seems obvious the valve is at least part of the problem. So, can the valve issue cause the noise AND a drippy sprayer (only when tap is open) or do I have a bad valve under the sink AND bad diverter/hose on a new faucet? I have no complaints about the plumber... but I didn't have access to the main water shut off and therefore he couldn't replace the supply valve. If both the valve and new faucet are faulty, I want to have everything ready for the next visit and not have to pay for a 3rd! Thank you so much for your time.

If the sprayer has a lever/button to press to activate, it is bad/contaminated with debris.

Thanks. It does have button, though the whole faucet, including sprayer, are brand new. If debris got in there during installation, would it cause the pipe shaking and drippy sprayer?

Yes, debris could be from the installation. Whenever the water is shut off for the house or at the fixture stops, debris can be broken loose from the interior of the water pipes and get caught in valves and aerator.

Your shut off valves are the issue from what you've said. The hose pulsing into the bucket is the clue. Hopefully, none of the broken down washer got into your new faucet. The plumber should'nt have reconnected the faucet to the bad valve. He took a chance of ruining the faucet. Replace the valves. If they are Brasscraft valves, you can rob the srems out of a Brasscraft R-19 angle stop to replace the stem assemblies on your valves.

Dripping from a sprayer is not because of an angle stop valve.

A piece of the rubber washer could be stuck in the diverter. Just a thought.
