Drain Drip Noise in Farmhouse sink drain
Author: rodlandersal (AL)

So recently had a Bradstreet farm sink installed in kitchen redo. So new plumbing to the sink. Every time we run water in the sink I get a very loud drip noise as the last bit of water falls from the strainer down into the p-trap. This sound persists for an exceptionally long time, many times a minute or more. The plumber that installed and a second plumber say it’s normal, but I call BS... I am 54 and NEVER have I heard a drop this loud or for this long in any house! Anyone experienced this? Have a solution? It seems to be a design flaw in the strainer?

that's a nice looking installation.
i can't tell you how many of those exact strainers i have used with never a complaint.
i'm not saying it isn't happening i'm saying i never had it happen to my jobs.
my only thought would be to hard pipe the trap and use a heavy gauge metal tailpiece .
the thicker material might absorb the sound?
you could also insulate the tailpiece which might also help?
by the way, that is a decent quality strainer, not a cheap one.

you evidently never had a 'real' strainer before installed in a 'real' sink with proper bottom pitch which COMPLETELY drains down to last drop

there is NO WAY to eliminate the sound of the last drops 'splashing' into the trap seal in your EXCELLENT installation

HOWEVER

it seems that there is a very slight (by design) downward 'dip' in the center of the strainer where the basket fits - i will wager you get the sound when draining WITHOUT the basket in place - simply lift and slightly turn the basket to drain AND LEAVE IN PLACE

best of luck

AND

enjoy your exceptionally QUIET home where a sink draining is an annoyance
