What’s you honest opinion on AAV vents. I’ve read pros and cons, read and watched videos on master plumbers who don’t have a problem with them and say they would have one in their home if it was needed and some that say run. I have a situation that would be a royal pain/nightmare to rip everything apart and tap into the venting in the walls. I feel An AAV would be great just afraid of the potential problems.

I think they are great for sinks but for a toilet probably not the "best practice" especially for a sewage ejector system.

This would be for a sink so makes me feel a bit better. What brand do you like the best. I’m looking at Studor and Oatey bc there legit trusted names. But then again not a plumber here so maybe better option in your opinion???

For the record I never had a problem with basin drain flow ( no gurgle/bubbling) And no sewer gas smell. Sink worked great, I just noticed the way it was plumbed recently when I went to look at the plumbing under sink bc I might replace vanity soon. Could this be vented in another way. The existing Stub out goes into a 90° Fitting strait down not a Santee so yes it looks plumbed wrong I know that. I read online that sometimes it can be vented another way Within the system but not the norm. to have no vertical pipe going up off a T. I ask this because never had a problem with the sink on venting. P trap always had water.

if you MUST - install the piping for the AAV, just plug it instead of the actual AAV

i think what bern means is if there is no gurgling and the trap doesn't syphon then install a tee for the AAV but plug the tee until you need it. (if you ever do).
as far as being problematical.. as long as it is accessible it can always be replaced or eliminated.
as for brands ??? studor should be fine.

So other part of my question was could that be vented some other way like over by toilet. Because it works fine. If it’s not vented why no problems?

And 1 more question: I have read that aav’s need good airflow. I wIll need to cut drywall more to cut drain line to plumb a T in, so being tucked way back in the cabinet and in the wall there And cupboards shut, will that get adequate enough air, I will have restrictions plumbing the vent horizontally on a T under the sink. That’s why I ask.

plumbing related to traps/vents is like snowflakes. there are no 2 alike. some are close to a main vent some are far away. some have minimum pitch and some go straight down.
if you go up on a roof and hold a cigarette over the main vent stack, sometimes the smoke will be sucked into the pipe and sometimes the air blowing out of the stack blows the smoke away.
the key term we use in plumbing is "free flow of air".
vents provide that "free flow of air"
anyway, if it were me i would install an AAV set-up under the sink and let mother nature take her course.

it MAY be in the sink's cabinet






you very well may have a vented code compliant basin now

ps. an AAV will NOT work for an ejector pit as it is ONE WAY IN only and will NOT vent the pit when the sewage is rising
