Turned main valve off/on and lost pressure in 2 sinks
Author: trooper69 (FL)

Hi, I had to repair a leaky pipe coming from my water heater and turned the main valve to the house off so I can remove the bad pipe. It took a while trying to find the part on 4th of July so the water was off for about 2 hours.
I repaired the pipe and turned the main valve back on. I'm not a plumber and didn't know (until doing research after the fact) that you should have a faucet open when you do this. I've turned it off/on before but never for this long.

Anyway... I lost almost all water pressure in my kitchen sink and in a hallway bathroom sink. The bathtub and toilet in the same bathroom seem fine. The other bathroom... further away seems completely fine as far as the sink, shower and toilet.

When I first turned the water back on, that hallyway bathroom seemed good at first, but then it made some noises and now there's very little water pressure.

I have looked for leaks all over the house and can't find any so I'm hopeful that I didn't burst any pipes.

I tried turning the main back off, opening the kitchen and problem bathroom sinks, slowly turning the main valve back on but that didn't improve anything.

Since today is Sunday and I can't get a plumber out until at least tomorrow, I'd like to try anything that anyone suggests.
Thanks in advance.

Try unscrewing the faucet aerators and see if you get water? Also see if you lose water only on the cold side, hot side or both?

The loud sounds you heard was air in the system. You should take off any aerators and flush the air and crud out then replace the aerators. This may be all you need. Good luck.
