 Gas dryer connection
Author: Buzzcut1580 (NJ)

I am installing a new dryer and the new hose is larger 5/8. I went to Home Depot and they said the connector that came with the hose should screw directly into the shutoff. You can see from my picture it currently has a nipple screwed into the shutoff then a female to male adapter( the male end is flared) then the hose screwed in. My question is do I take out the nipple and screw in the male adapter that came with the hose directly to the shutoff with the other male tapered end to the new flex hose? Lady at the store said current setup is dangerous but I don’t see why? Also do I put pipe dope on the piece screwing into the shutoff?

i don't understand why you are even messing with the shut off end of the flexible connector?
you undo the end attached to the dryer 3/8 nipple and put everything back onto the new dryer.
5 minutes work.
turn the gas on and spray childrens bubble solution on all the joints to check for leaks.

-You should NOT have, nor do you need, a 5/8" hose for a dryer. You need one JUST LIKE you have, or just reuse it, for the new dryer.
