vintage exposed pipe 3 valve porcelain cross handle shower system
Author: 5good9831 (IL)

I live in a 1910(ish) Tudor style home. The shower is an exposed pipe, 3 valve, porcelain cross handle shower system. The hot water knob will not turn off. It turns to the point of shutting off then spins out. So now to shower, you just turn the shower valve on and hot water automatically is running.

is there a specific name for this type of shower setup?
and how is it easily fixed?

it is readily, not necessarily easily, fixed by an on-site plumber

matching and/or coordinating parts will be the issue

It really depends on the particular valve and the particular plumber. Hope the valve was a popular brand and find an older repair plumber, not a younger replace plumber. Unfortunately, hj is now in Arizona.
