 Water supply to fridge
Author: SEVENM (TX)

The ice maker went out on my fridge and I haven't used the water on it for a year. I bought a new filter and ice maker and installed them both. The supply line used to supply cold water but now it seems to supply hot water like it is coming from the heater. I was purging the filter and the water was coming out hot like it was from the water heater. It used to come out room temperature like the tap. It never gave us cold water just filtered water. What could have cause it to start giving hot water?

A cold water line can't really change to hot by itself. Is it possible that the refrigerator water supply line always delivered hot water, which the refrigerator cooled down to room temperature? Can you track down where the water supply lines comes from?

Not without cutting up the sheet rock. It just seems strange that it started doing it when I replaced the ice maker and water filter. It never came out hot like that before. Now after about 3 cups of water it is hot, not just room temperature. Could be it was always a hot line running in there and just didn't notice it.

Hello,
I'm in the same boat as SEVENM: getting hot water from the refrigerator water supply line and can't track down where the line is coming from. Besides the higher energy costs for cooling down the water from the hot water supply line, are the refrigerator filters made to withstand/filter hot water the same way as cold water? Are there any health hazards for consuming the water when filtered this way?
Thanks.
