Installing tankless electric heater - 1 or several?
Author: frodo7075 (OH)

I am renovating a 70's house and I am thinking about installing tankless electric water heater(s). I see I can buy a whole-.house (6.5 gpm) 34 KW unit for about %550, but my problem is that this is a ranch house with very long plumbing runs. The current tank heater sits right under the kitchen, but then the hot water runs about 30 feet in one direction to the laundry/powder room, and another line runs about 60 feet to the two nain baths. I'd like the hot water to arrive quickly, of course. Should I consider installing smaller tankless heaters in each of the three areas? If so, what size will handle a kitchen, and what size will handle the other two areas (laundry and then two back-to-back bathrooms)?

Any thought from you more experienced guys would be welcome!

What does it cost you per Kw/h of electricity? We have ridiculously high electric rates. It would cost me a fortune to run that. Not to mention having to upgrade my electrical service (34000 watts?) You'll cause a brownout in the neighborhood.

I am on my third electric tankless water heater in 12 years. I wish I had room for a tank. This uses 120 amps of a 200 amp service. This heater is 28kw. If I could I would have a proper sized tank with a Grundfoss or Laing pump system to keep the hot water line primed with hot water at the furthest fixture

Something else to note....My electric rate per kw/h is about 4 times as high as my mom's in Florida.
