 Uncapping for washer
Author: howdy612 (MN)

I recently purchased a house that did not include a washer or dryer. After having the washer delivered they explained it could not be hooked up because the water line running to the washer was capped. Is this something a novice like myself could attempt.

Thank you

Can you post pictures of your piping, so we can see what's there and give advise?

No way to tell, because we do not know what you mean by "uncapping".

you need two of these..

you need a cutter for pex.. (about 12 bucks at home depot)

and you need to fasten them solidly behind the washer

DIY skill level about 2 out of 10.

you cut the pex, insert the stiffeners (supplied) into the pex and slide on the stops.

hard to say if the quote was fair without knowing what the proposal was.

Personally I like things done right or not at all but in these times functioning and working beat aesthetics.

I would route and secure the piping on the wall behind the washer and install new valves or washer box.

Did the quote include any work at all to the drains?

Depending on how "nice" you want it to look, it could take about 10 minutes time a $15.00 material or 1 1/2 hours and $50.00 materials. You have to decide whether the amount quoted is fair or not, or whether you want a second opinion.
