Water Heater Estimate without model #
Author: catc (CA)

Hello All,

I got an estimate for a new Rheem 50 gallon gas water heater for $1800 inc installation but the company said that they can't give me a model # because it varies. Is that normal?

yes

is it proper business practice ? NO

it WOULD be proper to provide you with SPECIFICATIONS pertaining to what you are paying for

eg.

50 gallon storage, 5,000 watt input, 40 gal per hour recovery rate, 12 year tank warranty, etc.

then

the precise model no. does not matter

Wow. I just got a new heater. Specified Bradford White Defender 40 gallon gas, and that is what was installed by my licensed plumber. I know a 50 is more, but I only paid $750 installed. Of course in Wichita KS we do not have earthquake requirements, expansion tanks, or power vents. Glad I didn't have to spend the kind of money you are talking about!
