Sayco Shower Stem Seats are Stuck and Stripped
Author: KT555 (FL)

1970-1971 built home in suburbs of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. We bought as a foreclosure and it seems as if other owners had already tinkered with plumbing and ceased repairs.

I bought a Danco complete rebuild kit for a 3 shower valve (hot, cold and diverter) because cold stem was leaking. Now likely, the stripped seat.

Two problems arose...

1. All valve seats are stripped completely (tried seat wrench, WD 40, tapping screw driver into seat and turning with wrench) but it still won't budge. Seat is basically round at this point.

2. Diverter screw to stem is stripped. We can't even pull off handle to remove the stem. Tried rubber band and also grab-it screw extractor. No success. I

Any suggestions?

You do not know how hard it is to "strip" a seat, if you use the correct tool, or how difficult it is to remove once you have done it. Call a plumnber and MAYBE he can do it without a major remodel job.

I find that if I have a screw or a something similar that I can not get loose, I rig up a bit to my impact driver set in reverse. somehow the vibrating does wonders and I've always been able to get it unscrewed.
