 zoeller backup pump fittings?
Author: mik2 (WI)

I recently installed a zoeller 508 back up pump. Works good but i dont like the fittings they use... see link.

They use a tee that seals with o-rings. Theres is a reducing fitting at the pump, it has two notches in it so you can insert the pump with oring and then clamp down. Theres a similar notched end at the small check valve at the outlet of the primary pump.

So the point of failure is the check valve and these notched fittings.

If you had to repipe this without these notched fittings, how is it done?
Will regular pvc cement work on this pumps discharge?

I'm not sure about the reducer??
but as long as the clamps are 100% stainless, they don't bother me.
it does make replacement very easy.

as for the connection at the pump, some kind of fernco would work.

Yes if the pump fails you can just pop in another but it looks tricky if the small zoeller branded check valve fails... i have never seen a small one like that... about the size of a male adapter.

I also should have noted the size of the o-rings... i wonder if an o-ring and clamp would work with a standard fitting without the notches cut into it?

"i wonder if an o-ring and clamp would work with a standard fitting without the notches cut into it?"

if it would work, the manufacturer would not go thru the expense of making the notch.
