How do I remove the diverter stem from a model 308 sayco/briggs 3 handle shower faucet?
Author: yeto (SC)

How do I remove the diverter stem from a model 308 sayco/briggs 3 handle shower faucet? I am able to get the stem loose and it will come out approx 1/4 inch but it then seems to be catching on something. When I push it in and then try to pull it out I can hear (ting metal on metal sound) it hitting/catching on something that is keeping it from coming the rest of the way out. What am I missing. I was able to remove the hot and cold water stems with no problem.

This is a link to a picture of the faucet:

Thank you in advance for any help,

I don't know for sure but I found this on another site..

"There is a plastic washer that is probably hanging up coming out of the valve body. Turn the stem so that it is in the full open position. This will line up the plastic washer better. It still may require some wiggling and pulling to get it out but should be easier. "

The Sayco diverter has a metal cage at the bottom that is misaligned. Screw the diverter back into place and turn the handle counterclockwise to get the diverter cage back in alignment. leave the stem tight in this position. then try to remove the assembly. This may take a few tries.
