Pardon my ignorance...

I want to get a 6' toilet auger and am thinking about getting either the Ridgid or General.

I'm a general handyman and would use it maybe a few times a year. Cost is not the issue...I know it'll pay for itself rather quickly. But then again I don't need a $200 professional auger either.

I know what the drop-head is capable of but am confused if I should just get the bulb-head type as it may be rare that I'll need a drop-head. Is the drop-head just as effective as the bulb-head? I yes, I'd rather get that.

You should be asking if the bulb head is as effective as the drop head. In my opinion, definitely NO! I seldom use a bulb head closet auger even though it also have one of those.

Sold on drop head.

Ridgid or General?

you may want to consider one of the new plungers. I haven't tried one but the video appears that are very effective.

I have a small bellows plunger for sink and they even make one for toilet

get which ever one has the better rubber/plastic sleeve at the bottom to keep from marking the toilet during use.

A $60 General or Ridgid 6 footer and your good to go

Either one. I use General.

Another vote for the bellows plunger recommended by hi (TX). Clears many clogs without augering.
