 Garbage Disposal Discharge Pipe Help
Author: 120volts (CA)

I'll be replacing a very old GE 1/2HP disposal with a new InSinkerator 1/2HP. I was looking at the configuration of the pics customer sent of the discharge hose and I haven't seen this before and I do not want to change the drain plumbing.

On the ones I've changed the discharge hose usually is short from the disposal and then drops down long. On this one, as pictured, it seems to be the opposite--long horizontal and drops short. I know the pipe to the new InSinkerator gives you goes the first scenario.

Any ideas of what to use to transition this discharge tube? Also, The main drain p-traps, etc. appeared to be glued so I don't have much wiggle room.

I am 'pretty sure' the disposal will take a standard kitchen sink tailpiece.

Here’s a wider shot as requested:

Thanks all. It’s hard to tell if the standard piece will fit. I go to the jobsite Wednesday morning and will post an update Thursday.

@packy: I like that idea. I will pick up a piece like in your second picture just in case the standard tailpipe won’t work.

Interesting install. So I assume the branch to the left is the sink drain, and the smaller branch below is the hook up to a dishwasher? No vent at all?

Sum that pipe might run from the trap into a sani-t inside the wall. Vent would come off the top of that.

This was a lot easier than I thought. I just used the old 90 degree disposal drain pipe along with the old metal gasket. The gasket holes were too small but it was easy enough to drill bigger ones. The new metal gasket wouldn’t make the turn in the old elbow, in case you were wondering.

This old GE disposal is 18 years old and horribly designed. Bear to remove.

Thanks for everyone’s help!

Here’s the disposal drain pipe I was <originally> concerned about.
