42" water main break in Fort Lauderdale
Author: sum (FL)

so some contractor broke a 42" water main supplying raw water to Fort Lauderdale's water treatment plant.

We will be without water in the city for at least 24 hours. Not just the city of Fort Lauderdale, but seven other surrounding cities and parts of unincorporated county.

A near by roadway is also collapsing.

The whole city and seven surrounding cities, they estimated about 220,000 customers. Malls are closed, hotels are evacuating, and restaurants are closed.

Although latest news said they have a patch working for now with untreated yellow water but permanent fix is being worked on.

"I think right now we just need to get the hole plugged," Mayor Dean Trantalis said. "When it comes to the cause and who's responsible we will definitely follow up on that."

Officials explained the reason why one main break could shut down the entire city's water supply is that the system has been outdated and relied on a single line for its source.

Turned out it's an electrical subcontractor of Florida Power and Light, bored a six inch hole through the 42" water main between the wells and the water treatment plant.

Would FlexSeal have worked?

If the water you’re drinking is yellow, you might be drinking out of the wrong pipe!!
