 Washer for FIP Connection?
Author: tcom6 (AZ)

Have had this happen to me at 3 different rentals just the past week. All the hoses are roughly 17 yrs old.

Changing Kitchen faucet, removed the standard 1/2 inch FIP - reattached connection to new faucet, starts leaking. Wasn't previously leaking. I believe it is just that cone shaped rubber - but haven't been able to find a washer that works.

I've also tried using pool lube (happened to have some good quality lube handy), but the lube did no good. Lowe's guy claimed vaseline might work (haven't tried) ... rather just buy a new rubber washer if possible.

Any suggestions or should I just continue buying new hoses each time this happens? The 3/8 compression end (connected to the valve) always seems to be fine - it's just the 1/2 FIP that always seems to fail.

REAL plumbers do not reuse the hoses.

What kind of kitchen faucet? I don't remember seeing new kitchen faucets that do not come with new supply hoses. With pull down or pull out spouts the hoses are integrated with the spouts and I think may be proprietary?
