Hi, there is a high pitched humming noise heard after using any water in my house. I suspect there is pressure difference in some pipe, but we cannot figure out what source is causing it. I've tried turning on every tap in the house (sinks, showers, laundry machine) but it seems that the cause is from multiple taps or something entirely different? There is a loud whistle/high pitched humming heard through the entire house (loudest above the kitchen) that occurs seemingly at random. Someone else in the house suspects its from using a lot of water, but I've tried running 2 showers at the same time to recreate the sound and still no luck. I don't know if this detail is useful but there is a bathroom in the basement that has only been used once every 3 to 6 months and is now being used regularly.

Is there a pressure reducing valve on the incoming water supply?

The two most common causes are a pressure reducing valve, or a water softener.

Sometimes a rubber seat inside of a toilet ball cock can cause a sound you described. Listen carefully at each toilet to determine if this is the problem.

That is seldom the answer people are looking for when they come here. They want to do it themselves, even if it takes many days to do it.

check every stop under every sink and toilet to be sure they are FULLY on, if so then shut off all the toilet water supplies and turn them on one at a time while flushing each toilet it is likely a toilet fillvalve that is the culprit.
