 Nut on toilet supply line
Author: varactor (CO)

A few weeks ago a plumber installed new supply lines on two of my toilets. Since that time, I've noticed that the nut connecting the supply line to the shutoff valve appears to be slowly rotating on its own. Not sure what is causing this - maybe the supply line is exerting some torque on the nut, causing it to loosen? No water leaks so far, but I'm concerned nonetheless. Has anybody heard of this happening before?

I'd pay cash money to see a "time lapse video" of that nut unscrewing itself.

never heard of that..
use a 5/8 open end wrench and give the nut a tiny bit of tightening.
and no amount of stress from that type supply will loosen that nut.
it looks like the plumber used good quality parts.

are you sure it's the actual nut rotating and not the crimped end of the braiding rotating? Inside is still a rubber hose. Is it possible when tightening the steel braided portion was turned/twisted with the nut, and now the nut is staying put but the braiding is untwisting itself a bit?

I'm not 100% sure what happened. It sure looked to me like the nut had rotated slightly, but my eyes must be playing tricks on me. I'll wait a few weeks and then compare the position of the nut to where it is today. Hopefully there's no movement and whole thing was just an optical illusion.

Thanks for the responses.

If it loosened even a little bit, it would have started leaking.
