Sink stubouts height rule of thumb
Author: Palm329 (VA)

Could someone please remind me of the sink stubout height for both the supply (cutoff valves) as well as the drain pipe? Above finished floor I believe they are.

For both kitchen and bathroom sinks.

Thanks pros for all the help!!

I have been setting my kitchen sink drain stubouts at 12" AFF (that seems to me would accommodate the deepest sink with a disposer), and bathroom drain stubouts at 18". For bathroom supplies I do them at two to three inches above the drain, although a lot of that depends on whether it's going to be a pedestal sink or vanity, and whether it's a drop in or vessel sink. For kitchen supplies I rarely pay much attention to the height on setting the supply lines but position them base more on where the hot dishwasher line and the cold icemaker lines are or will be, so that I do not end up with a pretzel under the sink.

vanity sink drain height.. 19-20 inches
kitchen sink drain height 14-1/2 inches (ma code says allow for a disposer whether or not being installed)

hot and cold are approx. 21 for both.
in a kitchen, I sometimes bring out a second hot pipe at about 12 inches for the dishwasher.

In addition to the other replies, I put kitchen angle stops and drain stub out off a ways from the faucet centerline. Too often a pullout faucet gets used and the hose always gets tangled in the undersink plumbing.

Appreciated. I’m going to try to lower mine as I have a long-standing issue with my garbage disposal vs. stubout height. I actually used one of those rubber/flexible traps to fudge it and make it work... but now I’ll have the opportunity to fix it for real.
