 Sewage Basin Problem!
Author: iafarmer (IA)

Hello all, I'm looking for advice. I just moved into a new home a couple weeks ago and noticed right away that the sewage ejector pump runs about every 15 min. This is used to pump waste from my basement bathroom into the septic tank. After taking the cover off the basin, ground water is seeping in around the 4" inlet pipe. There appears to be a grommet/gasket around the pipe, which is not doing its job. Any ideas on how to fix this without tearing up the concrete in my basement? I was thinking about waiting to see in the water stops flowing when dryer weather arrives and try to apply a sealant around the pipe? Any advice would be appreciated!

that is pretty wise advice.
for now, lift the cover to see the water level. turn off the breaker for the pump and watch how high the ground water actually is.
if it only comes up a couple of inches and stops because that is the level of the ground water then you can leave the pump shut off so it stops cycling every 15 minutes and turn it on when you need to use the basement bathroom.
if it keeps rising and floods the inlet pipe then you have no choice but but to leave it running.
just be cautious as not to flood the place.
