 Retainer ring.
Author: RR60 (VA)

With Gerber trip lever tub drains.

Any idea why the brass ones come with a retainer ring and the PVC ones do not? Can I buy a seperate one for the PVC model?

What they call the retainer ring. Is the half moon shape bracket that you see if you remove the trip lever cover.

This allows you to remove the trip lever and have the head tube still attached to the tub. So no chance of the overflow gasket falling behind the wall.

I have just found for tub drains only. The Gerber seemed better quality than others and worth the extra cost to me.

And years ago used to use the brass models. But more expensive and did not see the lasting any longer.

Seems very odd why PVC ones would not have this cheap little bracket since it can serve a purpose.

Thanks for any opinions or advice

most gerber wastes don't have that ring you refer to.
companies do look at costs when making a product.
so it is not only the cost of the ring but it means drilling and tapping 2 extra holes in the overflow flange and providing 2 extra brass screws.
