I had to move my gas water heater for some other work. It's back and working but two issues are remaining:
1: There is a little trickle on the HW union. When I put the heater back in place, I made sure everything was aligned perfectly before making the connections. I can't tighten it any more than it is. Is there a way to stop the leak? BTW - the union is only about 6-7 years old.
2. I flushed the tank but the drain cock is low flow so I want to change it to a full flow ball valve for better flushing. I cannot budge it loose (it's brass) from the tank. How do I break it loose without damaging the tank?
Thanks!

1) take the union apart, clean the mating seats and use some silicone grease.
2) don't worry about breaking the tank. just put a 14 inch wrench on it and give it a couple of raps with a 16 oz hammer.

I usually follow Packy's advice but I would be inclined to put a cheater on the 14" wrench like an 1 1/2" pipe, 3 ft long. It is possible to crack the brass hose bib with a sharp blow. Just a thought.

we don't call them 'cheaters', we call the 'persuaders'.
whatever you call it, it will work just as well.
