Our Well Will Not Pump Water
Author: ONR in HM (NC)

We have a deep water well, about 40 feet.
The pump is working, we know the impeller works fine, the tank is good, however, the well will not prime.

We know water is in the pipe because we can see it. but when we turn the pump on we can see that water is coming through as and it is also spitting air along with the water.

We were advised that there may be an obstruction in the pipe keeping the water from getting through so we pulled the pipe from our well to find out why water will not come through, what should we do next?

I suggested we put the pipe back because the obstruction is now probably clear. Is there any thing we should look for before putting the pipe back that could still cause the pump to not flow properly?

As I recall, make sure there is enough water to fill the pipe up to the top and that the impeller is clear. You must get the air out of the pipe to prime the pump.
