Can’t turn hot water in shower off
Author: Marcinwv (WV)

I rent an old house. A dump to be honest. I got out of the shower and the hot water wouldn’t turn off. I got it lower but it’s still spraying a lot of water. There had been problems with it leaking but I hadn’t had time to do anything. It was a small drip but it had gotten larger. Maybe 5 yrs ago it did the same thing and the landlord did a fix. He always just patched things so it was never really fixed. The pressure was low. Anyway, does this sound fixable? I’m thinking of getting a professional plumber. It’s an old crystal knob and when I remove it, there’s the rusty tube thing. I know better than to mess with it. Any idea how much a repair would be?

your landlord should be fixing it. Why are you paying for it?

that looks like a delta shower valve to me.
if so, it is pretty easy to fix and parts are not expensive.
we don't discus pricing here.

Thank you very much for your help. A neighbor helped remove the valve but I have to buy a new One tomorrow. I’m hoping it’s simple to attach. Here’s what I’m dealing with.

that is definitely NOT a delta.
if no one here can identify it then you will have to bring it to a supply house to have them match it up.

It does appear to have the Delta cup and spring?

Use a smaller size Allen key to get in there and remove the cup and spring.
Replace those and the stem assembly.

So does Valley, but they are not interchangeable.
