Hello,
I recently purchased a house and quickly realized the master shower had no hot water. I had a plumber look at it and advised that the shower cartridge needed to be replaced. Here is where things get tricky. The shower does not have a shut off valve. I have emailed pictures of the installed cartridge to a number of plumbing supply store and no one can identify it and they want me to bring it in. If I turn off the water to the house and the cartridge breaks when I remove it, I believe I am screwed. Correct? Any thoughts on my next step?
Thank you for your help

Show us the picture. Maybe we can ID the valve.

Is it possible to access the back of the shower from the wall behind?
if so, you can cut an access panel into the wall and install the much needed shutoffs.
