What is the easiest method to change a drain in a tub which is in an upstairs bathroom?

Questions need to be answered:

1. Do you have an access panel in the wall or ceiling at that location?
2. Do you have space between your ceiling joists and the floor joists, or are they one and the same? If so, what are the measurements or how many inches?
3. What material is your waste pipes; i.e. ABS, PVC, Copper or Cast Iron?

What ever the case, if you do not have an existing access panel, now is the time to install one.

I'm guessing you're referring to the waste and overflow assembly? What's located on the backside of the wall, on the drain end of the tub? Hopefully a closet.

I may have misunderstood the question. If you are referring to the mouth of the tub drain, send a photo so we can help.

Every time I've done this I have cut the ceiling open for access (unless the tub was being changed too)

then it's a two person job. It can be a tricky job until you have done 5 or so. Access and the existing trap arm are the two main variables.

My opinion is that a licensed plumber who is experienced in this task should be called in to do the work.

If you need to unclog the drain the easiest method would be to do it with some baking soda, vinegar and hot water, I will leave the following steps so you can do it yourself if you need to:

Start off with a half cup of baking soda and pour that down the bathtub’s drain. Really get that baking soda in there. Now working with your vinegar, pour half of your cup down the drain slowly, you should start to see some “fizzing” happen. When you notice this happening, cover the drain, and wait for the fizzing to stop. Once the fizzing has stopped, continue to do it again.

After this part is done, let this sit for 30minutes and prepare the hot water. After 30minutes has passed, pour the hot water down the drain. Did this relieve your bathtub of its clog?

These are our tips to how to unclog a pesky bathtub drain in your bathroom and relieve your home of harmful standing water. If none of the above solutions were useful, and you are still facing this problem, then it is time to call a plumber, these things can actually be more challenging than they seem.

I hope my comment was of some help, best regards!

The water filter has nothing to do with drainage. You should not post here if you are trying to sell a product.
