 zoeller pump oil in switchbox
Author: mik2 (WI)

i have a m98 which i suspected had bad switch. I caught it running dry, could have been an hour doing it. No breaker tripped and the thermal protection didnt trip either. I jiggled the switch and it started working and has been running fine for over 12 hours.

However, today I go to replace the switch and find oil inside the switchbox. Zoeller tells me it likely leaked thru wire openings when it overheated.

Do you think the pump is shot... would you replace the switch and use the pump without fear of failure?

After careful consideration...….I realize this question is well beyond my level of ESP. smiling smiley

Can your ESP tell me if the oil leaked first causing switch failure or did switch fail causing it to overheat and spew oil?

Another question........ do you think I should install the 30 dollar replacement switch into the broken one or should I let it die in peace?

fwiw: I have another pump taking in full duty right now... this one would be relegated to backup.

As a backup, it'll be fine.
