I need to repair a 3/4" black poly (PE I think) underground water line, that goes to a yard hydrant. I'd like to splice in about a foot of 3/4" PEX. I'd prefer brass barbed fittings to PB, but brass not available locally. Hardware store does have galvanized--which I've not seen mentioned in the archives here.
Any reason they won't work OK?
Thanks.

How were you going to attach the Pex to the barbed fitting? The 2 pipes also have different IDs.

Make the repair with black poly using the stainless hose barbs.

Stainless barbs are more expensive and, I think, would be more of a pain to install, with a such a short section.
PB fittings seem to be the wrong size for black poly (PE). I bought crimp couplers 3/4 Pex to 3/4 PB and the PB side is WAY too small.
The galvanized barbed fitting has MPT, so the PEX side will have FPT. I think this will make installation reasonably easy.
Agreed, galvanized may not be as long lasting, but I'd think it should last as long as galvy in the old houses around here, which is a good 50 years, give or take. Long enough for me.
Thanks for the advice!
